Since no one looked like they completed anything with any quality today, I am accepting homework for Monday.

I Hear American Singing poetry checklist to be completed.  Also an outline of your ideas on paper where I can clearly see what you want to write about.

The Poetry due date is November 7th.  You only had today to work on your poem.

Read "I Hear America Singing"

Use the Poetry Checklist give to you to analyze the poem.  Have your analysis written and ready for Friday.

If you read this, that is a good thing.  The list I gave you in class on "how to analyze a poem" be familiar with it and we will do it as a class in groups in class tomorrow.

Quiz on Friday "What is an American?"

Read the following poem "A Psalm of Life" on page 140 before Friday's class

For Next Monday - you have a quiz on poetic terms we covered in class today.

For Next Monday - you are to read "A Psalm of Life" and compete the check list for this poem (this is the hand out on poetry terminology I gave you).

Also, begin reading poems on pg. 198-211

October 17th

Look up the words I mentioned in class.  There is one vocabulary word and one name (the author).

Read each saying and in your own words, write what you think it means.  Due tomorrow.

From the story answer the following questions:

1. Contrast what Crevecoeur says about America and Europe (Chart).  There are many examples, please provide at least 5.

2. America gave immigrants a chance to own land, what is the significance of this?
